This is another painting that has an undertone that seems a bit sinister...I think I am seeing an elegant lady who is matched up with a big bottle of booze...so I am seeing this as a portrait of loneliness finding solace in drink. The colors are so rich, and the lines are sinuous. I really like the mass of dark shapes in the background. For me, they accentuate her loneliness. Excellent piece (even if I've read it wrong!)

Wow - it's really beautiful. Makes me think Renoir- Lautrec- even Van Gogh-- and/or a scene from a 1940'-50's film noir. I was at the bar in my post for 'match' too- and with booze and cigarettes-- butt that's as far as the comparison goes--yours is a work of art! The exciting color vs. the dull- the cool vs the hot- the dark vs. the light- the reserved vs. the unreserved- the blue and lonely vs- ...? Where's the match?! The hat to the woman? The hot colored vices to each other? The mases- the shadow people match each other like sheep? Is it that the picture as a whole matches? Is it a match to reality? One's perception of reality? Is it just the match for her cigarette? Anyway- I think my comment may drive people to drink- I'd have a drink now but need to work- so I'll shut up and get to it.
Love those colors! The reds are edible- and drinkable.
